Jacob Morell is a Danish born artist and photographer. He strives to create an encyclopaedic catalogue with entries that elevate its subjects to monuments of the fleeing infinite. He challenges the boundaries of how a photograph is constructed and perceived while giving a nod to traditions that preceded the medium. Hamlet saw infinite space in a nutshell; William Blake saw a world in a grain of sand, a heaven in a wild flower, and eternity in an hour. Linneaus saw the natural world as a divine library to be catalogued. Morell envisions an expanded model of ecology and the environment that encompasses economy, language, social relations and human subjectivity. Often his works are evoked by an interest in the modularity of perception and organizing structures such as story, language and belief.
